American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program implemented their online application process in 2010. Applicants must first create an Online Profile to apply for certification. Paper applications* are available on the AANPCP website for use by individuals who are unable to utilize the web-based application. The Candidate Handbook is available on the certification website and contains information regarding the application process and testing procedures.
Appropriate documentation must be submitted to the Certification Program for review. Once approved by AANPCP, qualified candidates receive notification from Professional Examination Service (ProExam) and an Authorization-To-Test (ATT) letter with instructions for testing. Candidates are given a 120 day window of opportunity to test, beginning on the ATT letter's date. Applicants who do not test during this window will be required to re-submit their application with all applicable fees.
Upon receipt of a candidate ID number from ProExam, the candidate may schedule their exam. Appointments should be made by going to the Prometric website at www.prometric.com. Candidates are encouraged to make appointments at their earliest convenience to guarantee the desired time and testing site. Candidates found ineligible will be refunded the registration fee less a processing fee.
AANPCP has partnered with TesTrac.com to provide a user-friendly, convenient computer-based testing practice examination to certification examination candidates. Currently offered, candidates may purchase a Family Nurse Practitioner Practice Examination or an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Practice Examination. More information can be found under the “Practice Exams“ tab on the AANPCP website.
Information regarding appeals may be found in the Candidate Handbook. Appeals for reconsideration of denied applications may be made in writing to AANPCP accompanied by the additional supporting information. Decisions made by the AANPCP Appeals Committee are final.
Should you be unable to take the examination at the scheduled time, you must notify AANPCP prior to making an appointment for the examination. The registration fee less a processing fee will be refunded within 30 days. Candidates withdrawing after an appointment has been made for an examination are not entitled to a refund.
*Effective January 1, 2013, a Paper Application Processing Fee will be charged for processing of all certification, recertification, retake, or conversion paper applications received in our office either by physical delivery, fax, or email.
