Retirement of the GNP National Certification Examination

October 2012 - As previously announced, the AANPCP Gerontology National Certification Examination will be retired at the end of 2012 in order to meet the new regulatory model requirements of the APRN Consensus Model for role and population foci. The last day an applicant will be allowed to sit for the AANPCP Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) examination will be on December 28, 2012.

The GNP National Certification Examination will no longer be offered by AANPCP after December 28, 2012. The last day to apply for the Gerontology Examination will be November 12th, 2012 to allow time for processing of applications. Applicants intending to apply for the Gerontology Examination are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible by applying online at www.aanpcertification.org.

Nurse Practitioners certified through American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) as a GNP will continue to be certified, credentialed, and recognized as a GNP - as long as recertification requirements are met and the certification does not lapse. GNPs who allow their certification to lapse will be unable to renew it without meeting current requirements for the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. GNPs should check with their individual State Board of Nursing for further requirements or stipulations.
